Brisbane brunch has got a bit of a script going.
Smashed avo. Eggs benny. Granola if you're pretending to be healthy. And honestly, we're not here to bag any of that — three of those things are on our menu. But there's one breakfast item that never gets the credit it deserves, and we've built an entire menu section trying to change that.
The fried sandwich.
It's not a toastie. Please don't call it a toastie.
Good bread, hit with heat until it's golden outside and soft in the middle, loaded with something that makes you close your eyes a little on the first bite. No ceramic boards, no microherbs, no drama. Just a really good thing to eat in the morning.
We've got four of them at Mickle Pickle, and between us, they outsell basically everything else on the menu.
The lineup
The Notorious E.G.G is fluffy scrambled eggs, crunchy lettuce and hollandaise. Add bacon. We'll keep saying it until everyone does it.
The Maple Rascal is maple glazed bacon with hollandaise. Sweet and salty in the best possible way. Add a hashbrown if you want to fully commit to your Saturday.
The Schnittee Committee is crispy fried chicken schnitzel, cheese, kewpie mayo and lettuce. The one people photograph without telling us and we somehow always find out about.
The Pork & Yolk is pork belly, scrambled eggs, diced shallots, kewpie mayo and crunchy lettuce. Our regulars are possessive about this one. We get it.
Why it keeps getting overlooked
A fried sandwich doesn't stack as tall as a benny. It won't get you as many likes as a smoothie bowl. It's not trying to. It's just sitting there on the plate being genuinely delicious, which in our opinion is the whole point of breakfast.
Mickle Pickle was started because we wanted a place that was simple and tasty without making a big deal out of itself. The fried sandwich fits that perfectly.
